Five August Events Not to Miss in Shelby County

1. Calera Main Street’s First Friday Festival

Friday, Aug. 4 | 5 p.m.

The last Friday Friday Festival of the season will wrap up on Friday, Aug. 4. This event’s theme will be “Meet the Eagles,” where booths will showcase local sports teams from youth sports throughout high school sports, too. This festival is sponsored by Central State bank, which will be giving away free backpacks to students to start the school year off right. For updates, visit here.

3. Helena Old Town Live

Saturday, Aug. 12 | 5:30 p.m.
Amphitheater Park

Bloodkin will open the last Helena Old Town Live event, followed by musical performances by Cracker. The park opens for this free event at 4:30 p.m., and music begins at 6:30 p.m. With food, drinks and vendors, too, this event is the perfect way to end the summer season right. 4. The Links Fore Scholars Golf Tournament

Saturday, Aug. 28 | 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
Inverness Country Club

Brought to patrons by the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce, this year’s Link Fore Scholars golf tournament will feature a shot-gun start, signaling four-person teams to begin the tournament at the same time but at different holes on the course. Similar to a scramble format, players will decide the best hit amongst their team members as they navigate the course to finish the quickest. Awards will be given to teams with the straightest drive, longest drive, ball nearest the pin and best putt, too. There will also be a hole-in-one prize.
