How We Met
John and I (Rachel) both went to Alabama for undergrad and had many mutual friends, but we somehow never crossed paths in college. I was in grad school in Mississippi in 2016, and I came to Birmingham to visit some of my friends for the weekend. John and I met that weekend when we both ended up hanging out at a mutual friend’s house. The rest is history!
The Proposal
John proposed to me on the 14th tee box of the Shoal Creek Country Club golf course. It was such a beautiful day. John had our families waiting in the clubhouse to celebrate with us after the proposal. After spending time with our families, some of our closest friends hosted a party at their house.
The Dress
The owner of Maggie Louise Bridal in Memphis is a friend of John’s family. Molly helped both of John’s sisters find their perfect dresses, and she did the same for me! It was such a fun experience. 
Favorite Moment
I was so happy and at peace all morning getting ready, but I was so excited to see John. Our first look was a combination of joy and excitement, and a moment that will forever be special to us.
Favorite Details
John and I got married at Shoal Creek where his parents also got married, 33 years prior to us. Our wedding date is also special, as we got married on Dec. 19, just like my grandparents did. They were married for almost 50 years.
I also love Christmas hymns, and our families and wedding party walked down the aisle to a few of my favorites. It was a perfect nod to my favorite time of the year, and some of my favorite Christmas hymns.
What We Are Doing Now
We are working and enjoying married life with our two Frenchies, Peanut and Lemon. I am a speech language pathologist, and John is in law school.
