How We Met: Evan’s and my (Caroline’s) paths crossed at a small group for young professionals through Church of the Highlands. Both of us were seeking individual growth in our own personal relationship with the Lord while making new friends. Evan and I quickly became good friends and saw each other every week. Over the course of two years, our friendship only grew stronger, and the Lord unveiled that there was something more than friendship between us.

The Proposal: January 25, 2020 will be a day that I will never forget. That morning was the finale of 21 days of prayer and fasting with our church. When we arrived to our friend’s house, it was as if time stood still as the door slowly swung open. Lit candles and rose petals lined the floor, soft instrumental music was playing, white lights were hung across the ceiling, and balloons with pictures or notes attached filled the house. As we walked through, pictures were hung in chronological order of our relationship and handwritten notes he had written reminiscing our journey thus far. Evan asked me to read each one aloud, and my eyes were filled with tears that I could not see to be able to read them. When I reached the last note, the last line read, “There’s just one last thing I need to ask you…”

Favorite Moment: The moment that stood out the most for us was when we were saying our vows to each other in the chapel of the church where we met was important to both of us. It was as if it were only God, the two of us and the pastor standing there, and it was such a holy moment and so surreal. With all that we had been through and the challenges we had faced since the start, it all came together and it was the most peaceful, calming moment.
