Pottery Collective Gallery Exhibit

Aug. 5

Shelby County Arts Council

The SCAC’s annual exhibit showcasing the work of Pottery Collective members is back. The opening reception will be held Sunday, Aug. 5, from 1-4 p.m. at 104 Mildred Street. Additional hours are Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., during regular business hours. All artists participating in this exhibit began as students in the SCAC Pottery Program. All work is for sale and available for immediate pickup.

Cornhole & Corndogs Charity Tournament

Aug. 4

Riverchase Country Club

The inaugural Cornhole & CornDOGS Charity Tournament benefitting the Shelby Humane Society will be held Aug. 4 from 2-7 p.m. at Riverchase Country Club. The event will feature live music, a 50/50 raffle, satellite bar, cash prize to the winner and more. Fees are: $40 for adults and $15 for juniors per team through July 31; and $50 for adults and $15 for juniors per team the day of the tournament. Three on a String

Aug. 11

Shelby County Arts Council

The four men of this dynamic music group – Jerry Ryan, Bobby Horton, Brad Ryan and Andy Meginniss – have enjoyed 45 years of capturing audiences’ attention with their “good, clean, hilarious entertainment.” They’ll do so once again on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Shelby County Arts Council building in Columbiana. Tickets are $25 each.

Shelby County Master Gardener Course

Aug. 15

Shelby County Extension Office

This course will be held from Aug. 15-Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Shelby County Extension Office, 56 Kelley Lane, Columbiana. Class limit is 25 people. Friday Nights at the Cove

Owl’s Cove Park

Families are invited to the park for an evening of music, mingling and fun. Admission is free. The last of three Friday Nights at the Cove features Jake Beaty. Bring a chair or picnic blanket, and pick up a to-go dinner from one of Montevallo’s Main Street restaurants to enjoy while you listen to music and mingle with your neighbors.

Salvation Army 2018 Golf Tournament

Ballantrae Golf Club

Golf for good! This tournament, presented by Alabaster Corps Advisory Council, will start at 1 p.m. The entry fee is $100. Sponsorships, donations and player participation will help raise funds to aid women, children and those in need in Shelby and Chilton counties with emergency food or utility assistance through Social Services programs. The final Summer Kids Flick at the Alabaster AmStar Cinemas will be held Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. The movie Sing will be playing. The cost is $4 plus tax and includes the movie, popcorn and a drink.

Free Health Fair

Aug. 11

Alabaster City Hall

The city of Alabaster is teaming up with Brookwood Baptist Health and the Angel Warriors Foundation to hold a cost-free health fair on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Alabaster City Hall, which is located at 1953 Municipal Way. The event will also feature a kids’ area with bounce houses, crafts and a magician to keep children occupied while parents peruse the health fair.
