The Proposal
Matt proposed at George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon just outside of Washington, D.C. He popped the question under a large tree with the mansion on one side and the Potomac River on the other. It was a beautiful, uncharacteristically warm and sunny day for December. We love knowing that our love story is tied to such a special place for our country’s founding. Given that we met in D.C. and created many memories there while we were dating, it was the perfect choice.
Favorite Wedding Moment
Being introduced at the reception and walking out to greet all of our guests for the first time was one of my favorite moments. It was so special to see all of our family and friends together in one place. We did a champagne tower pour as part of our introduction, which was super fun and also got our guests excited. It was energizing to be cheered on by all of our family and friends. We had “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” by Natalie Cole playing in the background, which was a great way to set the classic tone for our wedding.
Favorite Wedding Details
We wanted a grand feel to our wedding, which is why we chose the ballroom at the Grand Bohemian. I loved all of the details that we added to the ballroom to make it even more grand like candelabras, gold chargers and flatware, tall statement flower arrangements, and a 6-foot-tall cake! We also had white trees throughout the ballroom, which created a magical feel. My favorite detail of all, though, would have to be the cold sparks which we used in our first dance, the first song that the band played and our exit. They were so fun for us and our guests and really helped to create the grand atmosphere that we were looking for.
