The Tinglewood Festival

The Tinglewood Festival is a free event that is open to all. The festival will showcase a variety of artists and artisans, some of who will compete in a wood carving exhibition, a whittling contest and a wooden boat race, too. Attendees will also get to see a huge lineup of vintage smoke show automobiles. With food trucks, family-friendly activities, live music and more, this event is perfect for the whole family. Dahlia Day

Stone Hollow Farmstead

The fourth annual Dahlia Day at Stone Hollow Farmstead will offer a relaxed afternoon of fun, nature-filled activities. Whether you take a tour of the farm and stop by the hen house or take one of the farm’s beneficial insect talk and release classes, there is something for everyone. Stone Hollow Farmstead’s founder, Deborah Stone, will be leading a dahlia education workshop, and plants will be available for purchase. With tasting samples, merchandise, live music, an ice cream truck and more, this event is perfect for a “Shelby County getaway.” Learn more here.

Taste of Shelby County

The 16th annual Taste of Shelby County will feature some of the best, local restaurants’ varieties of food and beverages. With live entertainment, festive camaraderie and more, this event promises an exciting evening for all. Tickets are $50, and proceeds benefit Shelby County Schools. Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest at Helena Old Town Live is back and will feature a variety of local brews, ready for tasting! This free, outdoor event will also feature tunes from bands including The Bavarian Express and The Vegabonds. Find more details here

The Pumpkin Patch

Old Baker Farm

Families are invited to visit this U-pick farm to find pumpkins ripe for harvest, and they can take a hayride, get on a train ride, meet animals at the petting farm and explore the corn maze while they’re there, too! Admission is $13 per person, but those ages 1 and under get in free. The farm is open weekdays 3-5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Old Baker Farm’s annual “Cowboy Day” weekend is scheduled for Oct. 12-13, and the farm’s annual festival weekend is set for Oct. 26-27. Revvin’ 4 Research

Heart of Dixie Harley-Davidson

Brought to patrons by the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama and Heart of Dixie Harley-Davidson, the 16th annual Revvin’ for Research Charity Motorcycle Ride will feature a club of motorcyclists riding on a 65-mile, police-escorted route through Shelby County, Jefferson County and St. Clair County. Check-in and on-site registration for this ride begins at noon, and kickstands go up at 2 p.m. Riders’ fees are $35 for one rider or $60 for a couple. A post-race meal, compliments of Chef Jason Dodd of Breaking Bread Catering, will be available for participants after the ride. Stay updated on this event here.
