Fall is here again, and so are the pumpkin patches, festivals and entertainment events that make this such an enjoyable time of year.

•The Patch at Helena Hollow
October 5-November 3 // Helena
Families can have a “pumpkin pickin’ good time” at The Patch at Helena Hollow. For $10 admission per person (under age 2 is free), guests get to experience over 15 different agri-entertainment attractions including slides, swings, animals and more. Also included in admission is a beautiful wooded hayride to the pumpkin patch, where pumpkins can be picked and paid for ($2 each) upon exiting the farm at the end of your stay.
•The Pumpkin Patch at Teshua Farms
September 27-October 27 // Westover
The opening weekend of the Pumpkin Patch hosted by Teshua Farms and The Marketplace at Lee Branch will take place September 27 from 1-6 p.m. at Teshua Farms, 3922 Westover Road. The cost for all activities and a pumpkin is $10.
•The Murder Room
October 4-6 and 10-12 // South City Theatre
If Abbott and Costello teamed up with Monty Python and performed Agatha Christie you’d have The Murder Room! South City Theatre brings you all this mayhem and madness on October 4-5 and 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. and October 6 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $16 general admission and $13 for seniors over 60 and students under 18. •Book and Bake Sale

The Friends of the Albert L. Scott Library present the Semiannual Book and Bake Sale Friday, October 4 from 5-7 p.m. (Friends only on this date), Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, October 6 from 1-3 p.m. in the Community Room of the library, 100 Ninth St. NW, Alabaster. The sale is a great opportunity to stock up on reading, reference, children’s and other books. Hardbacks are $1 while paperbacks and children’s books are 50 cents. Books on CD are $1.50 and DVDs are $2 each. Baked goods will also be available.
•Fish Fry and Tailgate
October 5 // 4 p.m. // Columbiana
The inaugural Fish Fry and Tailgate benefiting the Clint Mooney Scholarship Foundation is set for Saturday, October 5 at 4 p.m. at 113 N. Main St., Columbiana. Gameday menu includes catfish, hushpuppies, fries, slaw and soft drinks/water. This event may start early and go later depending on game times. Bring your “A game” for some friendly competition including corn hole, best tailgate, favorite tailgate food and dessert auction. Bring your tailgate chairs. •Bark in the Park

The Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department will host the 13th Annual Bark in the Park. This event benefits the Shelby Humane Society. Entry is free. There will be tons of fun for the whole family including your dog. Leash is required.
•Shelby Iron Works Park Fall Festival
October 12 // 9 a.m.-3 p.m. // Shelby Iron Works Park
Old-time traditions will be on display at the Shelby Iron Works Park during its Fall Festival. Admission is free, so bring the whole family. The festival features lots of vendors, sorghum syrup making, blacksmith demonstrations, a tractor show and an antique sawmill. The Ain’t Misbehavin’ Dance Band will play again this year. Kids can enjoy inflatables and face painting. The Country Store will be selling collectibles and treats. Enjoy our delicious hamburgers and hot dogs. Be sure to visit the museum, the farmhouse and the school house while you are there.
•Oktoberfest Celebration

•Two By Two Rescue’s Barktoberfest

Two By Two Rescue’s Barktoberfest will feature fun for the whole family (four and two-legged members alike) including an adoption center, kid’s zone, low cost vaccines and microchips, bounce house, pony rides, vendors, food trucks, a bake sale and gift shop.
•Fall Food & Wine Festival
October 26 // 10 a.m.-8 p.m. // Corbin Farms Winery
Corbin Farms Winery in Calera will hold its inaugural Fall Food & Wine Festival with live music, food stations, local vendors and lots of great wine. General admission is $10 and includes entrance and one glass of wine. VIP tickets are $30 and include entrance, two glasses of wine, tote bag, T-shirt and $5 Corbin Cash (limited quantity available). •Cotton Pickin’ Celebration
October 26+27 // 9 a.m. // Old Baker Farm
Old Baker Farm is the place to be this fall. In addition to its pumpkin patch opening, the farm’s annual Cotton Pickin’ Celebration will take place the last weekend of October. The festival celebrates the farm’s rich history with Civil War reenactments and performances by Native American dancers throughout the weekend. Visitors can also check out other features around the expansive farm, including hayrides, food, a corn maze and live music.
•Root, Branch, and Star Exhibit

“Root, Branch, and Star,” featuring the work of Doug Baulos, is the first gallery exhibit at the Shelby County Arts Council’s new EBSCO Fine Art Gallery in the new Shelby County Arts Center in Columbiana.
