HOW DID YOU TWO MEET?
I was working at Twin Peaks when we met. I usually worked in the kitchen on Saturdays, but on this particular day, I agreed to work a night shift out front. Barnes was with his friends, enjoying a few beers and wings while watching World Series Game 5, which the Houston Astros won that year if anyone needs reminding. I checked on their table a couple times, but their tone changed when a man closer to my dad’s age–a stranger to us both–bluntly told me I should give him my number. He continued asking each time I came back around, and once he left, one of Barnes’ friends picked up the gig, coaxing him into asking for my number. Their persistence forced Barnes’ hand, and contrary to expectations, I gave him my real one.
THE PROPOSAL
I had one request: Keep it private because I’m awkward at showing emotions in front of people. On Dec. 10, 2022, in a living room surrounded by almost his entire family–half of which I had only met a couple hours prior–he pulled me off the couch. At this point, I all but blacked out, and I don’t fully remember what he said. I got the gist. As he dropped to one knee and asked me to spend forever with him, I obviously said, yes, but it did take a second to verbalize my answer. (I’m awkward at sharing emotions, remember)? I finally got my answer out, and the crowd went wild. In true celebratory fashion, there was cake and champagne before heading home, and ultimately, it was nice to have people around for that moment.
WEDDING DRESS DETAILS
I loved the simple front and all the character in the back of my wedding dress, which had such timeless elegance. It had the perfect amount of lace for me, and I was set on the buttons down the back.
WEDDING PLANNING ADVICE
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and choose what you want. I love event planning, so I did all of that, but it was still crucial to have people who wanted to help bring my vision to life and take away some of the stress from monotonous tasks.
