Spring is here and so are spring events. Here’s our roundup of what to do close to home this month.
1. 2021 Statewide High School Juried Art Exhibit
March 15-April 18
Shelby County Arts Council, Columbiana
Come out to see work from most talented high school artists from around the state. Artwork will be on display until the closing reception and awards ceremony on Sunday, April 18 at 2 p.m. that is open to the public. This show is made possible by the UAB Department of Art and Art History and The University of Montevallo Department of Art.
2. Spring Fling
Saturday, April 3 | 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Medders Family Farm, Montevallo
Head to Montevallo for a free community-wide egg hunt, lots of food vendors and more than 50 craft vendors. No entry fee or parking fee. The farm is located at 6306 Alabama Highway 25.
3. Easter Eggspress
Saturday, April 3
The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum
Trains depart at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for this Easter event in Calera. You can also ride the Shelby & Southern Narrow Gauge Steam Railroad, enjoy food vendors, and a visit and photo with the Easter Bunny himself. For tickets and information, call 205-757-8383. 4. Old Town Live
Saturday, April 3
Old Town Helena
The Helena Old Town Board and HOTboard are planning this free event with live music, food from Old Town restaurants, local vendors and more. Several acts will perform at Helena Amphitheatre, including The Pine Hills Haints, Drayton Farley and Deadwood. For more information see the Helena Old Town Facebook page.
5. Food Truck Egg-stravaganza
Saturday, April 3
Helena Hollow
In lieu of its annual Bunny Hop event, Helena Hollow will host a Food Truck “Egg-Stravaganza” with multiple food trucks, a visit with the Easter Bunny, “buckin’ bunny” rides for $10, live music, an egg hunt and more. 6. Fire at the Foothills BBQ & Chili Cook-Off
Saturday, April 17
Chelsea City Hall
This event is an annual spring fundraiser for Chelsea Kiwanis and Chelsea Fire and Rescue is back and will benefit The Chelsea Kiwanis Club and the Heroes Fire Safety Program. There will be live entertainment, a kids’ play area and lots of barbecue and chili to sample.
7. Diabetes Walk for Camp Seale Harris

Veterans Park
The Diabetes Walk for Camp Seale Harris is a Come out to help raise awareness of diabetes and help make it possible for kids to attend Camp Seale Harris, Alabama’s only diabetes camp, at this walk! Register for the family friendly walk/run at campsealeharris.org/diabeteswalk/.
8. The Ice Gala

Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena
Come out to see both theatre and ice skating at once! A number of local and national groups will perform, including Atlanta Ice Theatre, Harmony Theatre Company, River City Ice Theatre, Smokey Mountain Ice, solo and duet performances from local skaters and a production from Magic City Theatre on Ice. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $8 for seniors and children ages 5-12, and are available at Theicegala.eventbrite.com.
9. Strawberry Festival

Oliver Park, Calera

BYOC (bring your own chair) for this night of entertainment presented by Montevallo Main Street. Live music by Cam Spinks begins at 6:30 p.m. The next event will be Friday, May 28.
