Idol Summer

Whether you’re headed to a concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, for a walk around Veteran’s Park or to al fresco dining at Buck Creek this summer, the styles of the season are sure to keep you looking and feeling like a bonafide rock star.

What’s the basic look for the summer months?

Get comfortable in a casual, seemingly earth–child look.

Think hippie dresses, oversized bags and bold jewelry.

From embellished tees to layered necklaces, the look of summer is a coordinated one that comes across as nonchalant. Tribal prints, tropical colors and bold accessories are the key looks.

For our shoot, we visited some of the hottest shops in Shelby County: Chic Boutique at Lee Branch, Prissy’s in Chelsea, Wildflower Wax in Helena and Belk in Alabaster.

Summer Must Haves: Flirty skirts, bold jewelry, oversized, bright–colored bag, tribal print maxi dress, embellished tees and gold sandals.

Versatile looks are a must to make it through your busy summer weeks without breaking the bank. Take the Bamboo Threads smocked dress – this outfit can be dressed up with layered necklaces and a pair of espadrilles or used as a swimsuit cover-up with a pair of sandals when you’re headed to the pool.

Long dresses like the one pictured from Chic Boutique are a continuing style from last season, so you may be able to recycle a look already in your closet.

The “maxi” dress, as it is called, is a comfortable look great for those who aren’t prepared to bare their legs quite yet or for a festive look on a chilly night.

The third look emphasizes the need for great summer separates.

Flirty skirts and printed tees make a great no-thought-required outfit when you’re on the run.

Unique accessories, like the geo-rock necklace pictured, draw attention to your style prowess and round out a great look. Make sure to put accessories on the top of your shopping list since a great belt, necklace or scarf can easily refresh a look from last season or even last year.
